Read Across America

The Gaithersburg / Germantown Jaycees promote literacy at Read Across America.

On Saturday, March 7th, the Gaithersburg / Germantown Jaycees put on Read Across America, an event to help promote literacy for children. In honor of Dr. Suess's brithday, the Cat from the Cat and the Hat swung by and read some stories to the kids. Gaithersburg's very own Mayor Katz came out to read as well.

Here are some interesting facts about the day:

Jaycees in attendance: 18 (2 from State)
Jaycees kids: 8
Readers: 6
Books given out: 98
Juice boxes consumed: ran out at 120 boxes
Cupcakes consumed: 178
Hats: ran out at 108
Average age of children attending: 5
